Is the LG tribute hd launcher update actually required

I got a pop-up message on my phone stating do to latest report hacking event targeting LG Tribute HD android phones, a launcher update was released and it is required for every android phone. I don't know a whole lot about these types of things so, I don't want to go ahead believing everything I see, agree to it then end up being the one that gets screwed or ******* up my phone. So I'm just trying to find out how much truth or falsity this actually has to it.
