Can I Install a Custom ROM Without Rooting?

i could not find any unlock codes for my Kyocera. KingRoot and Kingo both failed.

I want to unlock the phone, or if i can't then root it, and if i can't do that, then install a custom ROM.

Installing a custom ROM looks like the only remaining option.
