Red lightning strike in battery whilst charging?

Help! When i charge my SAMSUNG TABLET, a red lightning strike appears in the battery icon in the top right corner, where there usually is a white strike. It does not actually charge now. What is happening and how do i sort it out? I am rather elderly (70s) so please keep answers simple?
