i cant send a message or i cant make phone calls why

hi just this morning i went to send a text and make a phone call but i cant send or make a phone call and my internet bars have come up as 4G with a cross next to it i have a google pixel i have searched high an low but haven't been able to find what is wrong i hope you can hep as i cant call telstra
